We’re working on a video with the people at the Greater Boston Food Bank. The situation is painful. A recent report from Feeding America reveals that 8% of the population in Eastern Mass. depends on food donations. The Greater Boston Food Bank has increased the amount of food it distributes over the past four years by 27 percent, to 31.5 million pounds, and is on track to distribute 32 million pounds this year.
The good news: the GBFB has a brand new 117,000 foot facility. With more space, new technology and smart environmental initiatives, the GBFB can more effectively help this tragic situation. Come on, it just seems impossible we have neighbors without food. Don’t you think?
Here’s a tour of the new building with Chef Ming Tsai and the GBFB’s prez Catherine D’Amato. It’s still a draft in progress, but here’s a first look.
